Meditation is more than just a simple relaxation technique; it is a path towards self-knowledge and inner transformation. Through stillness and mental quietude, we can go beyond the noise of the ego to discover our true essence. In this article, we will share an 8-rule meditation method to guide you step-by-step on this journey, uniting ancient wisdom with a clear and effective practice for the awakening of the consciousness.

At the Temple of Delphi in ancient Greece, an inspiring maxim was etched into the stone: ‘Know Yourself and You Will Know the Universe and its Gods.’ This phrase reminds us that self-knowledge is the key to comprehending the universe and the divine. Inner study, reflection, and meditation lead us to a state of quietude and mental silence.

When you achieve deep mental silence, not just at the level of thought, but in the deepest parts of your mind, something new emerges. Your essence is liberated and you experience the awakening of the soul, spiritual bliss and Samadhi.

Meditation and the Elimination of the Ego for the Awakening of Consciousness

The daily practice of meditation is a transformative tool that can radically alter our inner states. As the Master Samael Aun Weor teaches, those who do not work on eliminating the ego often feel lost, jumping from one thing to another without finding a clear purpose, unable to find a permanent centre of gravity in their lives. These people, sadly, often end their days without having achieved the intimate Self-Realisation of the Being, which is the ultimate spiritual goal.

The true awakening of consciousness is neither easy nor a superficial path. It can only be attained through liberation from mental dualism. This dualism manifests as the constant battle of antitheses, the internal struggle between opposites, and the incessant intellectual waves that drag us from one thought to another. By transcending these limitations of the mind, one can access a higher state of consciousness, where perception is clearer and the connection with the Being is profound and lasting.

Any conflict, whether subconscious or unconscious, gets in the way of the liberation of our essence. Even the slightest and most unnoticed opposition or internal battle reveals that there are egos in the dark and unknown parts of our mind.

It is fundamental to observe and understand the egoic aspects of ourselves to achieve absolute stillness and mental silence. Only in the absence of the ‘ego’ can we fully experience and live the integral revolution and the revolution of the dialectic.

The 8 Rules for Meditation

Meditation is governed by fundamental principles; without them, the liberation from the mind’s bondage would be unattainable. These principles are:

1 – RELAXATION: To meditate effectively, it is crucial to learn to completely relax the body, eliminating any muscular tension. It is fundamental to be able to induce and control sleep at will. Enlightenment, as it is known, arises from a skilful and balanced combination of sleep and meditation.

2 – RETROSPECTION: What is sought through retrospection? Due to their mechanical and routine lifestyle, people forget themselves and fall into a state of fascination. With the consciousness asleep, they are unable to remember their actions from the moment they wake up, are unaware of the day’s first thoughts, their actions, and the places they have been.

Retrospection, in the context of meditation, seeks to awaken the consciousness to all past actions. During this process, memories of past actions are recalled, ranging from the start of retrospection to whatever point in life is chosen. It is crucial to examine each memory impartially, without identifying with it.

3 – SERENE REFLECTION: Firstly, it is fundamental to be fully aware of our state of mind before any thought arises. Observe the mind with serenity, paying full attention to every mental form that appears in our intellect. We must become watchers over our own mind, even if it is agitated, during any activity, and stop for an instant to observe it.

4 – PSYCHOANALYSIS: It is essential to investigate and examine the root of every thought, memory, affection, emotion, feeling, or resentment as they arise in the mind. During psychoanalysis, one must investigate and evaluate the origin, cause, reason, or fundamental motive of every image, thought, memory, and association that emerges from the subconscious.

5 – MANTRALISATION OR KOAN: This stage pursues three fundamental objectives: a) To integrate the magical forces of the mantras or koans into our inner being.

 b) To foster the awakening of the consciousness.

c) To accumulate high-voltage Christic atoms (cosmic forces) within us.

To achieve this, the intellect must adopt a state of full, integral, total, serene, and profound receptivity. Koans are key to reaching this state of total receptivity.

6 – SUPERLATIVE ANALYSIS: Deep meditation requires sincere introspection and self-knowledge. During this process, the person must concentrate on the psychological aggregate or ‘I’ that they seek to disintegrate, holding it in the mind in order to comprehend it.

The superlative analysis of the Being has 2 phases

  1. Self-exploration: By means of the consciousness, to explore when the defect manifested for the first time, when was the last time, and at what moments it has been strongest.
  2. Self-discovery: To thoroughly analyse what the ego ‘feeds’ on. To break down and fragment each defect into its many parts and study each one, to come to know what kind of egos it comes from and what kind of egos come from it.

7 – SELF-JUDGEMENT: Visualise the defect being studied as the accused. Evaluate the damage that this defect causes to the consciousness and the benefits that the annihilation of the defect being judged would bring to our life.

8 – PRAYER: With great devotion, appeal to the Divine Mother Kundalini, your inner and individual Mother. Speak to Her with sincerity, recognising all your defects and flaws. Only She has the power to disintegrate the Ego from their root.

It is important to meditate with your eyes closed because this way you can eliminate distractions and immerse yourself in your inner world. By blocking visual information, attention is directed inwards, calming the nervous system and facilitating the observation of thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations.

The Daily Path Towards Mental Silence and Ego Elimination

Meditation is a path, not a destination. Each of these eight rules is a step towards a profound mental silence. It is not a quick process but a daily and gradual journey of patience and dedication. View distractions are opportunities to improve your focus.

An additional tip for your practice is to, if possible, meditate outdoors. Connecting with nature can enhance mental quietude and deepen your experience.
