What does charity mean to you? A simple act of kindness, a moral obligation, or something more?
Imagine for a moment that charity is not just an act of giving, but a force that transforms you from within, an echo from the depths of your being. We invite you today to discover how such a commonplace act can be the hidden key to your own spiritual advancement.
We can see Charity as the invisible key that opens the door to the path of Inner Revolution and the Awakening of our consciousness.
It is up to you to stop being an onlooker and instead become an active player in life, helping those who are going through hard times.
Charity as a Conscious Action
Charity is more than just a gesture or a mechanical act. It goes beyond kindness or altruism, and transcends the simple act of serving those who are hungry or ill.
Charity, at its most noble, is a conscious action that is born from comprehension. This helps us to understand Mother Teresa of Calcutta’s response to the journalist who said to her: “I wouldn’t do what you do for a million dollars,” to which she replied, “Neither would I.” Because it is the most beautiful act that can be born in our Heart; it is the expression of Love.
An act of true compassion is a flow of sublime energy. It connects us with other people, opens the doors to purer states of consciousness, activating our Heart.
As the world’s ancient traditions have always held, and modern science is discovering, the heart is not just a physical organ; it is an energy centre (chakra). It is not a simple muscle, it is an energy centre that raises us to higher states of consciousness.
Charity as a practice for the awakening of consciousness
Charity is in itself an impulse that leads us to the revolution of consciousness. It is fundamental to the work we must carry out for awakening our conscience and to bring about a radical change in ourselves and in our society.
Even the smallest act of charity involves an act of detachment. When you give ‘without expecting anything in return’, a small “death” of your ego happens within you. Whatever you give selflessly ceases to be just an object or your time; you are giving something of yourself. That gesture of kindness is the death, to a small extent, of your pride, of your vanity, of your attachments to material things.
When we help someone else, we are helping ourselves. Empathy with our fellow men helps us to know we are not alone. We live in society. We act together. We are part of a whole. Other people are not “the other,” they are an extension of ourselves. Through charity we break those invisible chains that prevent us from connecting with our true Being.
Charity: love in action
Love is more than a word or a grand gesture. Charity is Love in action.
Charity is not just helping others. It is a commitment that purifies and enriches us. It is a spring from which the virtues of the soul and the values of the heart are born.
It is the mother from which all Virtues are born.
From charity is born generosity, which conquers envy and the sense of ownership.
From charity is born justice, which makes us act with respect and prudence.
From charity is born empathy, which allows us to understand others and recognise ourselves as part of Humanity.
Charity is a way of life, because when we listen to, support and help people to resolve their difficulties in a constructive way, we activate our conscience and see ourselves reflected in them as if in a mirror.
Goodness is a feeling that makes us more human
“Love God above all things and your neighbour as yourself.” This commandment is a principle present in all religions.
How do we make that love for our fellow human beings a reality? Only through our deeds.
Charity is a spark of light that is born spontaneously and transcends the reasoning of our mind. In that instant there is no selfishness or pride: empathy and compassion are not an obligation. Altruism, solidarity, and generosity transcend moral duty. At that moment we discover that the true value of giving goes beyond the material.
Every action imbued with compassion, comprehension and conscience is a pure expression of love.
By changing the way we feel, think and act, all the virtues and values that will make us more human blossom within us.
There is a maxim: “Whoever gives, receives, and the more you give, the more you receive.” However, these days, this profound reflection is given a superficial and external interpretation. Popular podcasts and videos feed us with the idea that we should do good so that we receive the benefits, such as a better relationship, more money, or whatever we wish to ‘manifest’.
However, the reality is that every day, with a gesture as simple and natural as a smile, we can help others and, at the same time, ourselves. This conscious action is a light that illuminates our comprehension so that we feel that we are part of one humanity.
May Compassion be your way of life
Let charity flow in you, like the water that quenches thirst, like a hand that provides support and strength, like the voice of your soul that reaches out to those most in need. Let it become the light of your essence that radiates out to others.
May it be a spark of light that arises spontaneously and transcends the reasoning of your mind. This is precisely the esoteric dimension of Universal Charity, according to the Venerable Master Samael. By practising it daily, we enrich ourselves and help our society advance spiritually, overcoming selfishness and materialism.
I would like to know what you feel about this topic and about this profound thought: “‘He who does not live to serve is not worthy of life.”
